Happy Fri-yay, darlings! Today’s post is a little out of the ordinary for Blonde & Ambitious. I got inspired the other day when someone asked me to write down my top 10 favorite dates to go on with Adam because they were looking for new things to do with their significant other. It was a fun activity, so I wanted to share it all with you! Because we try to do at least one date a week (doable since we don’t have kiddos), we like to try out new things all the time. However, this is a list of my very favorite date activities to do with my sweet husband. Let’s dive into this.

Top 10 Date Night Activities

The Drive-In Theater

Drive-In theaters are the way movies are supposed to be watched, in my opinion. They are the best! You can buy hot dogs and movie popcorn, snuggle on a blanket in back of your car and watch 3 movies in a row for like $8! Talk about a fun date. Amiright? Just be sure to pack your bug spray (hello summer mosquitos) and a battery operated radio so you don’t kill your car battery! Then sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

A Picnic

I probably didn’t need to mention this one, but it is so fun I had to. I love picnics! Pack your sandwiches, sparkling cider and that picnic blanket you’ve had in your closet for six years and go to the park! Picnics are one of the most romantic things you can do with your significant other. What beats sitting underneath the warm sun with the person you love eating Oreos and peanut butter and jelly? Nothing. Literally nothing.

A Bonfire

This is best done as a group date activity!! Gather a group of your closest couple friends and head out to the middle of nowhere (not hard to do here in Idaho). Pack your marshmallows, starburst — so good when roasted, trust me on this one — and hot dogs and get ready for a super fun evening. Make sure you aren’t wearing any of your favorite clothes though because bonfire smell never comes out. This activity is perfect for those september – october nights when it is just starting to get cool so it isn’t too hot to stand around a fire.

Game Night

Adam and I are board game people. I am perfectly content eating Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream and playing scrabble with my guy until 2a.m. Some fun 2 person games to try: Bananagrams, Yahtzee, or Boggle! We are both competitive by nature so it is a lot of fun for us to play games in good spirit. We enjoy giving each other a hard time and laughing over this “old-fashion” date.

Driving With No Destination

This one is one of our very favorites. Sometimes we will just get a little stir crazy so we hop in the car and start driving. We almost never had a destination in mind. Whoever is the passenger (99% of the time that is me) will just call out random directions and we will drive until we don’t feel like driving anymore. We have seen some pretty beautiful and secluded spaces this way. Scenic highways, herds of sheep and many, many potato fields. Hello, Idaho. It gives us a chance to just talk and chat away from real life.

Chasing The Sunset

Sunset chasing has to be one of the most beautiful activities you can do. Just wait until the sun starts to go down and then drive in the direction of the sunset. You drive and follow the sun until it fully sets. It is like chasing a rainbow because no matter how close you get, you still are so far away. It definitely gives us an appreciation for the life around us. We are so lucky to be happy and in love and together. Chasing the sunset is one of those things that definitely makes you think about life.

ROADTRIP

I feel like we have done a lot of this lately….a few weeks ago we took a 10 hour road trip to Vegas and spent the weekend there. This week we drove 20 hours to Missouri to see my parents. Adam and I love road trips. We are pro-packers when it comes to spending over 10 hours on the road. Adam and I will download a million movies and books on tape and get an obscene amount of snacks. We talk and laugh and mostly go tech-free so we can just be together. Adam is nice enough that he does the majority of the driving. I really don’t like driving, but I LOVE being a passenger.

Pizza + Ice-cream + Movie

This one is a no-brainer. Sometimes the best dates are ordering in pizza, eating ice cream out of the carton and turning on our favorite movies. Most recently we watched all of the Jurassic Park movies and then we watched all of the Harry Potter movies. Snuggling on the couch with my favorite human and my favorite feline has a way of making my world seem totally perfect.

Mini Golf / Lazer Tag / Bowling

I put all three of these together because we can usually do all of them in one date! We have a place near our house that is an arcade/movie theater/bowling alley and we are able to knock all of these activities out in one place! It doesn’t take very long to do each activity alone so we like to make a two or three-hour night out of it. We feel like kids and I’m terrible at bowling but we ALWAYS have a fun time. Always.

Hot Springs

This one will be harder to do if you don’t live near a hot springs. We have several within a couple of hours distance of us so we are able to make the trip every now and then. Hot springs are fun because they are a neat alternative to the typical pool trip. If you have never been to a hot springs, they are like hot tubs but they are natural! They don’t have chlorine and they come straight from the ground. I’m not positive why they are so much more fun that regular hot tubs, but you can take it from me. It is definitely more fun.

  1. These are such sweet and fun ideas. I haven’t been to a drive-in theater in YEARS, it would be nice to snuggle up with my husband at watch a movie at one. 🙂

  4. What some great ideas! My favorite date is when we pick up sandwiches and just sit in the car by a local lake or park. Winters are long and cold here in New England, I’m hoping to get my husband into a board game or two this year. We’re getting older and sitting in front of the TV isn’t so much fun either but running around at night is just not our style anymore.

  5. We are going on 5 years of marriage and I love to refresh our date ideas. Especially now that we have kids, it feel so important.

    1. Rachel — I feel the same way. My husband and I talk about this all the time. We don’t have any kiddos yet but we have made a conscious decision not to stop dating once we do. He’s my forever date, my exit buddy and my best friend.

  9. Date nights are important! It was easier to plan and make a date night happen before kids. Finding a sitter isn’t always easy and if a kid gets sick all bets are off. *sigh* It’s only temporary!
