Today’s post is covering one major trend: bright statement heels. This cute top joined my closet a few weeks ago with the sole intention of wearing it with these shoes. I scored these shoes at the beginning of last summer at Payless for $10 and am always buying things that I know will match. I just love them so much, okay? Special thanks, as always, to my sweet friend and world’s best photographer: Michelle Peterson!

3 Tips To Styling An Embroidered Top & Statement Heels

STEP ONE: Choose the right jeans.

When styling heels with jeans, choosing the right jeans will make a WORLD of difference. I always choose skinny jeans when putting together outfits like this because it puts the focus entirely on the shoe. And obviously, with a statement shoe, the purpose of this outfit is for people to look at and admire your shoes. They should be the centerpiece of the outfit! You look dang good, girl. Kill it.

STEP TWO: Choose the right color.

There are a few tried and true statement colors that I have discovered work with nearly every skin tone. Red, coral, hot pink, violet, and cobalt blue. They are bright enough that they are bold on every skin tone and hair color. For this outfit, I chose neon coral to be my statement color. It is bright against the white/black shirt combination and it is a nice contrasting color to the baby blue of my jeans. I toyed with pairing it with crimson heels and a matching lip, but decided to wait until fall to pull out my reds. Coral just screams summer.

STEP THREE: Accessorize.

Because this shirt is so busy, I had to be careful when choosing what necklace to go with it. This black and gold statement necklace is just the right balance between being visible and not being distracting. I didn’t want to wear something too loud because my shoes and lips scream for themselves. You don’t want to be overwhelmed by your outfit. It can be really easy to over accessorize. Use these two questions when styling an outfit to decide if you have one too many accessories on:

  1. Can you find your “center piece” or do your eyes wander, unable to land on something specific?
  2. Does your body look to “heavy” on any certain area because of too many pieces of jewelry? (left arm +5 bracelets, right arm + no bracelets/rings = lopsided. TIP: even your arm party out with some rings on the other hand!!

  1. Absolutely LOVE your whole outfit and the bright color you went with for your heels! I am always having trouble figuring out how to incorporate heels into my outfits, and this definitely helped bring a few cute outfits to mind!

  2. Loved this entire look! Everything here is so pretty! I love that you kept the entire outfit pretty neutral because it allowed your heels to really stand out. I also really love your jeans. I have been buying a lot more light wash jeans lately. Dark wash will probably always be my #1, but you can do so much with light wash jeans!

  3. I usually gravitate to those same bright heel colors, so I can definitely appreciate the tip about choosing the right colors. I’m not too great at accessorizing so I will have to try the trick where you see what your eye is drawn toward so I’m not doing too much.

  4. These heels are gorgeous. That colour is one of my absolute favourites. It’s funny cause sometimes I catch myself strutting around in heels and I think how am I old enough to be wearing heels. I still feel like a little girl dressing up in my mom’s shoes!

  5. Such a cute outfit! I’m not able to wear heels at the moment, but I’m looking forward to when I can again! Definitely marking this page to come back to.

  6. I’m such a lover of statement heels (the colour of these ones are gorgeous!!). I think that if you can style a pair without the outfit looking too “busy” or “mismatched”, then you’re pretty much set for life haha. Loving your whole outfit, girl!

  7. I LOVE your outfit!! Statement heels are my favorite! I had Achilles tendinitis in both of my heels/ankles. When I woke up in the morning I seriously walked around like an old lady because it felt like my tendons were going to snap. I’ve basically given up heels at this point which makes me so sad. But it had to be done! I have found some great statement flats in exchange!

  8. I love the color of your shoes. I have to admit that even though I haven’t gone shoe shopping in a year, I would definitely pick those up. If I get this new job I am going to have to severely step my shoe game up so I appreciate any tips I can get.
