Happy #BEAUTYMONDAY, fam! I’m so excited for today’s post – finally another hair tutorial! You guys ask for them all the time and I need to be better about regularly posting them for you – especially my short hair ladies. This is my TWISTED CROWN BRAID and is SO simple you will wonder why you haven’t thrown it into your routine lately (and it’s especially awesome if you have second day hair – it works even better with a little bit of texture to hold the twist in place). I’m also chatting with you about my top 3 MUST-HAVE products for beating winter dryness and keeping your hair it’s healthiest during the cold months. Let’s dive into this.
New Year #NewHair – How To Beat Winter Dryness + An Easy Twisted Crown Tutorial
8 Ways To Repair Your Hair During The Winter:
- Obviously – use the Schwarzkopf Gliss™ Ultimate Repair Shampoo, Conditioner and Ultra-Moisture Anti-Breakage Treatment. Shiny, healthy hair starts with an awesome hair care routine. The principle is the same as your skin, if you want your makeup to go on smoothly, you start with a healthy, clean base. If you want your hair to style well and stay healthy doing the dry winter, you start with a strong, clean base!
- Stop over brushing your hair.
- Did you know – it’s a myth that you should brush your hair a hundred times a day to have healthy, shiny hair. It actually doesn’t help at all (I know – news to me, too).
- Be extra gentle when brushing your hair, and never brush your hair when it’s wet. The strands are too pliable and break more easily. Unless you have a brush designed specifically for wet hair, stick to brushing dry hair only!
- Relax on the hot tools: cool it (literally) on the blow dryer & hair straightener. Invest in some wet hair styling products like air dry spray and let it do it’s thing when you can! You want your hair to have as little heat damage as possible during the winter.
- Use a split end treatment to keep the dry weather from penetrating the strands. Static and dry air can wreck havoc on your split ends, so instead of ignoring them (like I usually do), pick up a good split end treatment and use it religiously.
- Trim your hair every six weeks in the winter. Hairstylists recommend you keep your hair trimmed during the winter because of split ends – they travel up the hair strand and you’ll need to cut more hair off eventually. This is especially important to do if you are growing out your hair.
- Shampoo every other day to lock moisture in. Water dries hair out (even with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner) so washing every other day will keep that moisture in and maintain the health of your hair.
- Never go outside in the cold dry weather with wet hair. I am a HUGE offender of this. I always run out and do my errands with wet hair and then it freezes and my hair becomes brittle. DO NOT DO THIS. If you want to save your hair – make sure it’s dry before leaving the house.
- Switch to a silk pillow case. I had no idea that this was such a big deal but apparently, it totally is. It reduces static cling, reduces split ends and virtually eliminates frizz. Talk about a triple threat.
I picked these products up at my local CVS – they’re available now at yours, too!
