I know it isn’t exactly Valentine’s Day, but the day of constant eating is almost upon us. So while maybe you won’t be kissing your significant other all day long, you will be stuffing your face with turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. That shouldn’t stop you from looking fab, though, amiright? That means you need a lipstick that is going to last through the entire day…through kissing your family to eating your third slice of pumpkin pie. I put four supposedly kiss proof lipsticks to the test and swatched them all for you so you don’t have to. Let’s do this.

Four Kiss Proof Lipsticks That Last

NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick

It isn’t advertised as “kissproof” but I figured since it dried down, it was worth a shot. SO. I went ahead and tested it out.

Pros: This lipstick is stunning. It doesn’t dry out your lips and it lasts all day. I went through two meals, kissing my husband, and about 8 hours before needing reapplication. The color is opaque and only needs one coat (bonus) and it is easy enough to take off at the end of the day (meaning I didn’t rub all of the skin off my mouth trying to do it).

Cons: It takes a little while to fully dry down, so it isn’t “kiss proof” right away. Also, it doesn’t come in as many shades as I would like it to. BUT that isn’t a total deal breaker because there are a handful I like. It comes in many dark neutrals and reds but not as many “pops of color”. Also, you will start to see feathering around the inside of your mouth if you are eating TOO much.

Rimmel London Provocalips

This stuff came out of freaking NOWHERE. I bought it on a whim last summer for the Fourth of July so I could kiss my hubs during the fireworks. And holy. crap. WHAAAAT.

Pros: I only have the one color and I keep saying I will buy more because I love it so much. So that is on my list. Now the pros. This stuff isn’t going anywhere for at least 8-10 hours. You can drink, eat, kiss, lick your lips, etc. and this lipstick is here to stay. It comes in tons of colors and it is super cheap so you don’t break your bank buying it. Win, win, win.

fullsizerender-37

Cons: it is advertised as being able to last 16 hours. Buuuuuuutttt….it doesn’t. Not really. It lasts a good 8-10 (still — that is amazing).  It is also pretty hard to get off at the end of the day. I really have to scrub my lips in order to remove it and I find that to be a pain when I am trying to get ready for bed. By that time, I have no skin left on my lips but I think this is a trend for kiss proof lipsticks because I have found that a lot, unfortunately. They are serious about it staying on. The other con is it is super glossy. You know me, I am a total matte girl. I wish it came in matte options!

Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks

fullsizerender-39

If you have been around here for a while, you know. You know that I love this liquid lipstick sooooooo much. It is gorgeous, it applies beautifully and I just think it is the best.

Pros: I love this stuff. I have five of them. It isn’t advertised as matte but it dries down matte on my lips. It stays put for at least 5-6 hours before I need a reapplication, and it is extremely opaque. I love how much color can be packed into this little tube. Currently, I have four colors but this red color “velvet” is the only one I would wear for the holidays (mostly because bright coral, hot pink and electric purple aren’t “standard” holiday colors. Maybe it’s time to change that…??)

fullsizerender-26

Cons: It isn’t AS long-lasting as the other ones. I do feel like I need to reapply at least once during the day and it takes a bit of time to dry down. Not too big of a deal though, for me! They are also pretty drying, which is annoying to me but not unexpected. Just make sure you use a hydrating lip mask after wearing it so you don’t permanently dry out your lips! It costs about $21, so it is pretty pricey for a lipstick.

Lipsense

At this point, if you haven’t been invited to a Lipsense party on Facebook from 12 of your closest friends, you’ve probably been living in a closet. Two sweet girls were kind enough to provide a few colors and glosses for me to test out (the other colors were gifted to me around the same time, ironically enough). You can find them on Facebook to order from either of them! They are funny and sweet and you definitely won’t regret working with them! Find them at Kylie’s Kissables & Style Your Smile With Natalie. I have five different colors: Burnt Orange, Hazelnut, Mulled Wine, Coral Reef and Lexie Berry. All of these colors are perfect for fall (Coral Reef really looks way more red than coral). I also have two types of glosses. Their normal “glossy gloss” and the “matte gloss”.

Pros: Lipsense isn’t going anywhere. Literally it is going to stay on your lips all day long. You can eat, drink, rub your lips, kiss your spouse…it isn’t moving. You can fall asleep and it’ll be there the next day. If you are looking for a lipstick that isn’t budging…this stuff is for you. They also coming in dozens and dozens of colors. Literally every color you need or could ever want is available. Check out Kylie or Natalie’s pages to see for yourself. The glossy gloss is hydrating and I do like that feature a lot. I’m not a huge gloss girl, but it does keep the color in place. I really like the color options (it is almost overwhelming) and they are very pretty. This brand truly has the most options available color-wise that I have ever seen. I am sure that there are tons of “dupes” in this line for other popular lipsticks as well. You can even mix the colors together to create your own custom shade. This definitely wins by a long shot for longest lasting lipstick.

fullsizerender-35

Cons: It burns like HECK when you put it on because the alcohol content is so high. Not completely unbearable but extremely uncomfortable. Also, It doesn’t come off. At the end of the day, when I want to go to bed and I want to take it off, it’s not moving. They provide a remover with the lipsense, but I don’t think it works well (edit: apparently they have come out with a new remover that takes it off in one swipe but I haven’t had a chance to try it out). It dries my lips out a LOT and makes them peel like crazy.

The other disappointing thing was the matte gloss. Unfortunately, this matte gloss did NOT meet my expectations at all. It looks matte and feels velvet-y when you put it on, and then in about 5 minutes its super sticky and not matte at all. I applied about 20 coats of matte gloss to get it to stop being sticky and when that finally happened, it still wasn’t matte and was chunky and weird. It just wasn’t “as shiny”. Also, beware. If you plan on purchasing this, you are looking at roughly $55 for a color, a gloss and an oops remover.

POST EDIT: Most of you know I graduated with a degree in Biochemistry. I wanted to update this post (07/2017) to reflect my current opinion about Lipsense. I should have done more research and asked more questions before posting this. At this point, after all the research I’ve done, I wouldn’t recommend this brand to my followers. The chemicals in this product are extremely alarming, and the fact that the company is trying to pass it off as “plant-based” and “organic” is simply not true. There is an incredible amount of alcohol which, supposedly, “helps to get rid of years of wax” on your mouth. First of all, your skin regenerates FAR more often than YEARS, so if you have years of wax built up on your mouth, you have a serious medical problem. Second of all, it exfoliates your mouth so much that it actually takes the entire first layer of skin off, leaving sensitive and delicate skin open to the world, and bringing your blood vessels closer to the surface. Another problem I have is that they gloss over the fact that too many layers of this product puts you at risk for a CHEMICAL BURN. I was invited to a Lipsense party a while back that stated, “Please do not try on more than 2-4 colors. Anymore than that puts you at risk for a chemical burn”. Personally, I don’t like to put anything near my body that puts me at risk for a chemical burn. I’ve done my research. I’m happy to point out scientific research papers and more credible sources you can look to if you are interested. I don’t want to knock the women selling this product — they most likely just don’t know and there is nothing wrong with wanting to make extra income from home. Unless you are trained in chemistry, it’s hard to figure out what is actually on the ingredients list. Use the Rimmel London Provocalips if you want something with staying power equal to that of Lipsense (without the hefty price tag and dangerous chemicals). If you disagree, and would like to talk science, please feel free to email me!

There you have it! The four top kiss proof lipsticks. I tried them all, and would recommend you try them to see for yourself! If you are looking for lipsticks to last your turkey feast, these will all be able to take care of that for you. I have a lot of lipsticks that have stolen my heart (looking at you, Milk Makeup) but it is nice to be able to kiss my husband and eat lunch without having to reapply 20 times.

Also please excuse my terrible swatching skills. I was doing it on my left arm and I’m left-handed so that just created disaster. Also don’t mind the scratches on my arm either. I got into a fight with Felix and LOST.

So, do you have any kiss proof lipsticks that I am missing?! Let me know in the comments below and I will try them out! I am always looking for new makeup to try!

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  1. I love the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks. I do find that they don’t last long periods of time but they are really great quality. The other lipsticks I have not tried out yet. I will have to see about getting some of these soon!

  2. Love this pro con list. I love pro con lists. It’s how I make a lot of decisions! I thought yours were very thorough which is so helpful when choosing a lipstick. I LOVE Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (color: beso 10). It takes about 5-7 minutes to dry and will not go anywhere. My husband doesn’t like it when I wear lipstick because then he can’t kiss me but this lipstick won’t rub off. It is expensive but mine has lasted several months and still going.

  3. Oh gosh nyx liquid suede definitely doesn’t last me as long as it does for you! I would say I lasted 1 meal and 4 hours before reapplying. But I love that my lips weren’t dry and that it didn’t get all weird upon reapplication!

I totally need to try Rimmel and Too Faced Melted

Apparently I’ve been living in a closet because I haven’t heard of Lipsense (new city could be the problem…) but I probably won’t try it, I have dry lip problems already!

  4. I have tried all of these with the same result, but I didn’t know that Lipsense had a matte cover. The burning does go away after extended use, and so does the lip peel. In fact, I wore it daily for a week and by the end of the week, my lips were plump and pretty.

  5. I’m still on the hunt for a good long-lasting lipgloss. I feel like some are amazing color, but last for 2 seconds. Or – they last forever, but peel off and look so tacky. The challenge is real. ugh.

  6. I never made a habit of wearing lipstick before, but I find it looks so gorgeous on other women. I’ve add “start wearing lipstick” to my 30 before 30 bucket list. It’s good to know which lipsticks are going to last and are worth buying!

  7. The funny part of this is that my daughter tested out mine and I can agree that it took forever to get it off of her 😉

  8. I feel like I’m at Sephora! This is so informative. Thank you for taking the time to break it all out! Now, I can’t wait to go try all of these!

  9. It may not be Valentine’s Day, but it is time for those mistletoe pieces to come out! I love the colors you tried too. It’s time for me to hit up the shops and buy!

  10. ooo some lovely colors! One of my pet hates is lipsticks that don’t last very long because the colors end up looking rubbish within an hour but these look great!

  11. I don’t wear a lot of lipstick, but I do like brands that won’t smudge off with kisses or after a meal. That Lipsense looks great….so many beautiful shades!

  12. Great article! I’m always looking for a good matte lipstick. I’ll definitely need to try these out. And I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one who gets dry lips from wearing certain lipsticks!

  13. Rimmel London’s products will always be underrated…they are by far the BEST drugstore makeup brand ever. Such quality! Love Provocalips – need more! Colourpop’s mattes are amazing too! Even some of their ultra satins stay all day!

  14. I can’t wait to check out NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick! I mean…it’s a gorgeous color AND it was 8 hours before needing to reapply…love!

  15. This is definitely a huge selling points when it comes to lipsticks. I want them to last as long as possible throughout the day. I will give these a try!

  16. I love that you shared this!! Definitely something I was looking at. I tried the Lipsense one and like it your right it is overwhelming to pick your colour and it did dry my lips out without using the glossy gloss on top a bunch through out the day. Going to give the Rimmel London one a try next!

  17. I love matte and kiss proof liipies! And there are a lot of brands that promise that exact thing, I’m grateful for lists like this though. Thanks for the list! Will check too faced melted out!

  18. Ahh!!!! I am so in the market for new lippies! I don’t normally wear lipstick (a light balm or lip gloss if anything unless I am going somewhere fancy then I will try something else) because of how they look when they start to wear and I haven’t found many that I liked the wear of even if they claim to be “long lasting”. These are great suggestions! I realllllly want to try the NYX one so bad! Thank you for these! xx

  19. Beautiful colors! My problem is that any lipstick I wear seems to bleed off of my lips and onto my face…I am so much better with very neutral lip gloss for that fact.

  20. I’ve been wearing lipsense for about a month and a half now and have been pleasantly surprised by how long it lasts. It did burn me the first couple times I wore, but I found that the more I wore it, the less it burned when I put it on. My only issue is that when it starts to fade, it comes off in flakes, which looks yucky.

  21. I cannot get lipstick to stay on for 10 minutes so 8 hours would be amazing for me. I will definitely have to check these out! I think I like the sound of the second one best.

  22. NYX liquid suede is my BFF. I have a few colors and love them all. I’ve also been wanting to try the Too Faced Melted colors. Thanks for the review!

  23. Great suggestions!!!! Nothing worse than buying a lipstick and having it be a lip color that runs all over when you do anything

  24. I too was super disappointed with the Lipsense Matte top coat. It’s so drying and makes my lips look chapped all the time! Will be trying out the NYX and Rimmel lippies!

  25. Can you please provide the scientific research papers you refereed to regarding the chemical burn that LipSense can cause? I love this product, so I’m going to need some real evidence if it really is that bad for you!

  26. Please provide the scientific research that LipSense causes chemical Burns. I personally love this product and have never had any adverse effects from its use! Would recommend it highly! Would love to see this information & proof of what you have stated

    1. Beryl, I’m very glad you’ve never had a reaction to LipSense. I’m more than happy to provide specific articles and links backing up the statements in my article. Please shoot me an email at [email protected] if you’d like the extensive list of resources I’ve collected.
