Best Of Beauty 2018 – My TOP FAVORITE Products
Happy Thursday, fam! I polled you guys on IG a little bit ago and got an OVERWHELMING “yes” response to me asking whether or not you guys would be interested in seeing my BEST OF BEAUTY round up – so instead of the post I originally had planned for today, we are going to talk about the best beauty products from 2018 including skin, hair AND makeup. It’s so interesting to look back at my favorite products from the year and realize how often favorites change, see what stuck around from January through December, and what new releases really stole the show in my beauty collection. ANYWAYS – let’s dive right into this.
Best Of Beauty 2018 – My TOP FAVORITE Products
I’m going to be sharing my absolute TOP FIVE favorites from each category equaling my top fifteen favorites in beauty from this year. I POURED over my beauty collection this year and was really harsh with my criteria.
1. I had to STILL be reaching for them as of this second. Not a past favorite, not something I used a bunch for a month and forgot about, but actual tried-and-true-still-in-use products I LOVE.
2. They had to still be in stock – and not limited edition products you can no longer purchase.
PS: If I have talked about this product in a blog post or round up before, I did link it in this post so that you can see me go more in depth on that specific product.
Best of Skin
This is both my and my husband’s go-to acne treatment gel. There are tons of treatment gels that work really well, but at the end of the day, we both find ourself reaching for this one consistently. It’s amazing because I truly feel it reduces redness and size of acne spots overnight.
This is my top hydrating mask .. EVER. I am so obsessed with the cooling sensation I get when I put this on my face, and it’s what I used to revive my skin after my intense month of special effects makeup in October.
Three: Pixi Facial Mists
The milky mist was featured in a monthly obsessions not that long ago because it’s one of my top skin priming facial mists. I love facial mists and Pixi has a HUGE range of them that are pretty fabulous. I have gone through several bottles this year of the glow mist because I use it as a makeup setting spray for my foundation to keep it looking really dewy.
This is a fun face tool that was sent to be over the summer and I haven’t stopped using it since receiving. I am OBSESSED. This is one of the best products in my collection for washing my face. It helps get the dirt out of my pores, it’s soft and the vibrations aren’t harsh on my skin and it’s waterproof. I keep it in the shower and use it in the mornings and then snag it to use before I go to bed.
I go through a LOT of facial cleansers. I try a LOT of products. But one that I continually go back to time and time again is my Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. It’s a very gentle facial cleanser and it does a great job at getting my face squeaky clean.
Best of Hair
This is the best texturizing hairspray I’ve ever used. It adds fullness, body and texture (obviously). It doesn’t leave a gross residue, which is a huge plus. I love using this before I braid my hair and after I’ve waved my hair. It helps keep my style in place all day.
I use this after every shower. I don’t think I’ve gone a shower day without this product in months. I have been on this journey of hair recovery because my blond hair has been a real struggle. This product has really helped to smooth my hair strands and repair my split ends.
Three: Aquage Detailing Creme
This is the greatest for when I wave my hair. I use this just on my ends because it separates my hair so that my curls don’t all roll together and become one big mega curl. It isn’t sticky but it just defines really nicely. I use it every time I curl my hair.
This is another product I started using at the same time I started using my skinny serum and haven’t put it down since. I do not wash my hair every day – I shoot for every 2-3 days – so this keeps it from collecting dirt and oil as quickly as it usually does.
This is the best hair straightener I’ve ever used. It has adjustable settings which is amazing because I am trying NOT to actively fry my hair. I straighten and curl my hair with this iron and it really helps to keep my hair shiny and the style in place.
Best of Makeup
I was looking specifically for products I never put down – and this is such a constant from summer to winter in my collection. I don’t know that it helps longevity in makeup application (I am not convinced any primer does, tbh) – but it does help keep my makeup looking dewy and healthy all day long.
This gloss is such a winner. I’ve heard you tubers talk about it for..ever?? I finally bought one this spring and WOWWWWWW. This gloss. It’s SO gorgeous and so comfortable on the lips. It doesn’t leave that weird white line around the inside of your lips, it just wears nicely. It’s shiny AND it smells like heaven in a bottle. I always have several bottles on hand now and have gone through at least 3 this year alone.
This foundation really came in hot this summer. It actually sat in my foundation drawer for a LOOONG time before I finally tried it out. It’s called matte – but I actually think it’s more of a satin skin finish. It isn’t fully matte, especially when paired with the primer from above. It sits beautifully on the skin all day, lasts hours and never settles in my fine lines. PLUS. It’s drugstore so it’s affordable.
This foundation is my holy grail for setting my makeup. I don’t love using a loose powder because I think it makes my skin look too dry. This is an illuminating powder so it doesn’t look dry, and aids in that perfect dewy skin finish. It’s great because it helps to stop my foundation from being “sticky” so I can layer other products without them looking patchy.
Ok. This palette came out of NOWHERE. I didn’t buy it for forever because I don’t typically LOVE toofaced’s eyeshadow formula, and it’s 90% shimmers so I figured I’d never use it. AS IT TURNS OUT – I couldn’t have been more wrong. I use the matte shadows in the palette more than any other palette I own because they are easy to blend, creamy and the perfect colors for a simple eye or a darker smokey eye. PLUS – it makes doing a cut crease so easy with the beautiful and creamy metallic shades. It’s my number one most used palette of the entire year – and I go through SO many palettes.
