7 Manageable Tasks To Kick Off SPRING CLEANING

Happy FRI-YAY! It’s real life April now, so what better way to celebrate my favorite spring month than to CLEAN THE HOUSE!

…*crickets*…

Wait…you guys don’t clean the house for fun? Ok. Well, maybe it isn’t the MOST FUN a girl can have on a Saturday afternoon BUT you will feel a MILLION times better once your house is in order and ready for the warmer months. This is my quick and easy guide to SEVEN (you can even break it down by day) manageable tasks to get your started with your spring cleaning. Let’s do this.

7 Manageable Tasks To Kick Off SPRING CLEANING

7 Manageable Tasks To Kick Off SPRING CLEANING

Task Number One: Organize important documents, papers and files.

I JUST did this for Adam & I! It’s important to regularly go through and organize your important papers. For example, we had three stacks. One in the kitchen, one on the desk and one in our bedroom. They all had various important papers and medical statements and more. I finally got all the piles together, condensed everything down and organized it into our filing cabinet. Now everything is where it’s supposed to be when we need to grab it.

Task Number Two: Toss old and expired hair and beauty products.

This one made me cry. I realized how many empty and expired hair products and beauty products I had lying around. I was able to clean out my makeup drawer and reorganize it. I also cleared up underneath my bathroom counter (because let’s be honest, it’s terrifying down there). This gave me a chance to declutter, revamp and realize which products I loved and which I just don’t use anymore.

Task Number Three: Tackle the junk drawer.

I both HATE and love a junk drawer. Honestly, it’s a great “catch all” drawer for stuff like lighters, rubber bands, batteries, flashlights, etc. But it’s also a “catch all” drawer for stuff like lighters, rubber bands, batteries, flashlights, etc. I know those two sentences say the same thing but it’s REAL. I like that we can go in and grab things when we need them but opening it up is like opening up a black hole. Drop something in there unintentionally, and you may never find it again. Enter at your own risk. I went in and dumped the whole thing out, put like things together in labeled plastic baggies and scrubbed down the drawer. It’s so fresh and SO NOT SCARY anymore.

Task Number Four: Vacuum your furniture.

Furniture to vacuum: kitchen chairs, couches, mattresses, lounge chairs, ottomans, etc. Any soft furniture that can be vacuumed, should be vacuumed. I had no idea how much dust was trapped in my furniture, it was honestly traumatizing. I am a clean person, I vacuum and I dust regularly. I’m not gross I swear. BUT MY FURNITURE WAS HOARDING SO MUCH CAT HAIR AND DUST I MIGHT AS WELL BE. Anyways, I will be doing this a lot more than once a year now.

Task Number Five: Dust ceilings and light fixtures.

No little dust webs in this house! Sometimes corners and light switches get dusty and by sometimes I mean all day every day. I went around to each room and dusted every light fixture (lamps, ceiling lights, fans) and every ceiling corner. I got in between molding and on top of things like mirrors and tvs.

Task Number Six: Clear out air vents.

This is also very gross. I took off the vents in each room and washed them completely. Soap and water, baby. I then took my little duster and got inside each vent and dusted what I could. I just had this terrible vision of breathing in air that was coated in dust because of how dusty these air vents are!!! I already inhale an entire cats worth of cat hair daily, so I don’t need to be inhaling mass quantities of dust either. Just take it one room at a time. YOU CAN DO IT.

Task Number Seven: Clean the windows, inside and out.

Living in an apartment, my windows weren’t really all that clean when we moved in. I did a quick clean of them when we moved in, but I haven’t really done too much with them since then. I took more soap and water and my vacuum hose and went to TOWN on those suckers. My windex has never worked so hard in it’s LIFE. But, now my windows are squeaky clean and ready for summer. It didn’t take all that long and I feel so much better.

My family has never really done spring cleaning as a “thing” but you just reminded me that I really need to sort through my old clothes and other piles of junk in my room.
